"The Archaeology of the A14 : 6,000 years of human History"

The talk will be a personal presentation on how over 30 sites were excavated between 2016 and 2018, encompassing a surface area 8 times the size of the Vatican city. Over 250 archaeologists were employed in what is the largest excavation ever undertaken on a road scheme. Headlines in included henges, bronze age and iron age sites, 50 roman pottery kilns and a romano-british supply base, 3 anglo-saxon villages and a deserted medieval village.

Steve Sherlock has been working as an archaeologist for nearly 40 years, working in local government then later as a self-employed archaeologist. Since 2003, I have been involved with four major highways schemes. I am widely published across all periods although I have worked extensively on Iron Age settlements in North East England and have excavated and published five Anglo-Saxon Cemeteries.
